Выдающаяся актерская династия XX в. Прекрасными театральными актерами были глава семьи М. Барримор [Barrymore, Maurice] (1847-1905) и его жена Дж. Дрю [Drew, Georgiana] (1856-93). Их дети - Лайонел (1878-1954) - блестящий характерный артист, много снимался у Д. У. Гриффита [Griffith, David Lewelyn Wark (D. W.)]; Этель (1879-1959), которая выступала в основном на сцене и носила титул "первой леди американского театра", и, наконец Джон (1882-1942) - "звезда" Голливуда, один из самых многогранных актеров эпох "немого" и "разговорного" кино, с одинаковым успехом исполнявший роли героев-любовников и отъявленных злодеев; его непревзойденное мастерство проявилось в исполнении двойной роли в экранизации рассказа Р. Л. Стивенсона "Доктор Джекилл и мистер Хайд", где ему удавалось переходить в образ злодея и физического урода Хайда без какого бы то ни было грима. Благодаря аристократической внешности и классическим чертам лица, Дж. Барримора вся страна и по сей день знает как "Великий профиль", кстати, запечатленный в цементном тротуаре перед "Китайским театром" Граумана [Grauman's Chinese Theater] в г. Лос-Анджелесе.
